Audison Prima AP 1P Car Tweeter Upgrade

Audison Prima AP 1P 29mm tweeter

The Audison Prima AP 1P tweeter is a definite and positive upgrade on the already pretty excellent AP 1, but what are the differences and why are of benefit to installers and listeners?

Although the AP 1P shares the tetelon dome material and rolled surround with the AP 1, the cone area is 29mm as opposed to 26mm. Coupled with a larger 8ohm voice coil and dual neodymium magnet, Audison has managed to widen the frequency response to 1.2kHz – 25kHz as opposed to 2kHz – 20 kHz.

The most obvious benefit of a wider frequency response is that system installers can lower the crossover point, when running actively. This can assist in the pursuit of a linear transfer from woofer to tweeter, particularly when the two elements are mounted some way from each other, which is common in many vehicles and especially in a Mercedes Cathargo we recently went to see.

The sonic distance between the Tweeter and Woofer in this Mercedes Cathargo is eased due to the low crossover frequency of the AP 1P tweet.

A passive crossover network is supplied with crossover point of 4kHz and a 3dB attenuator. The preference is to run them actively wherever possible.

Ideal for A-pillar builds the AP 1P’s are supplied with three different face plates. Our favourite it the spoke-style grille which offers slightly more acoustic transparency than the honeycomb grille. It also look neater. The third option is for mounting behind original tweeter grilles in a vehicle.
