Hertz Dieci, Active Car Subwoofer

Hertz Dieci DBA 201

The Hertz Dieci DBA 201 is a radical update on the Hertz Dieci DBA 200 which has kept drivers rocking for many years now. The new active subwoofer employs very similar technology to a Audison APBX active subwoofer. The similarity is in the amplifier and speaker impedance match. Class D amplification is very efficient so draws little current from a vehicle’s power system. The impedance of the amp/speaker combination in the DBA 201 is just 0.4 ohm. This makes the 400Watt capable subwoofer even more power efficient.

Look Inside!

The solid MDF enclosure is also home to two passive radiators. These add additional depth to the bass generated by the optimised 8″ subwoofer as they resonate in sympathy with the fluctuations in air pressure in the enclosure.

Controls on the DBA 201 allow for comprehensive tweaking. A low-pass filter has a 24dB/octave drop off with an adjustable corner frequency with can be set anywhere between 50Hz to 150Hz. This allows your system designer to integrate the sub-bass perfectly with the full-range speakers in a system. An adjustable level control offers further integration tweaking and offers a 0-6dB boost.

Phase is a very important adjustment on a subwoofer. Phase can be changed by position as well as any obstacles sitting between the subwoofer and the ears of a vehicle’s occupants. To this end a 0-180° switch is included. A permanently activated subsonic filter protects the speaker from over excursion. This 24dB/octave filter is set at 15Hz. This frequency is not audible to humans but, can destroy subwoofers at high-power.

An input sensitivity control allows your installer to optimise the input level while dialling out any distortion. The amplifier can be turned on via a remote wire or, it will sense when signal is received at the inputs and power up as a result. A wired remote level control puts the driver in charge whilst on the move.
